WHAT TO EXPECT FOR HOUSE 02: UNEARTHED – MORE, MORE, AND MORE!

Hey DNA-ers, it’s Andy and Deb here! We’re back again and as excited as ever to reveal a little more about House 02.

In the first season for House 01, you watched as we took an 80s hinterland Gold Coast home and turned it into a coastal contemporary retreat. This time around for House 02, we’re taking things to the next level with all new challenges, design inspo, and, of course, plenty of new jokes from Andy (because what would DNA of Design be without them?).

Buckle up for a brand-new ride! House 02, named ‘Unearthed’, sees us transform an outdated home by bringing it into the 21st century.

From mismatched to masterpiece, Unearthed focuses on the wabi-sabi design philosophy that embraces imperfection and thrives on simplicity (more on that below).

What else can you expect to see in this exciting new season? Keep reading to find out!

MORE SPACE, MORE EXCITING CHALLENGES!

House 01 was no small feat, but we knew we could take on even more for the next season. House 02 is larger in size, which means we got to take on a bigger renovation than ever before.

With a larger scale to work with, it’s only normal that we were met with even more challenges than the first home. You’ll get to watch as we take these challenges and embrace them, making the entire renovation process smoother and more enjoyable. It’s a good reminder that whenever a reno gets tough, it’s important to maintain a positive mindset and push yourself to keep going!

The kitchen really set the tone for the rest of the renovation.

We loved all the space that stretched from the living room to the dining and kitchen, as it provided an airy, open feel.

A big window was added to bring in all the natural light the space needed,  as well as a stone wall to create texture – this ended up being one of the biggest hero pieces of the home.

The biggest challenge we faced for the laundry and butler’s pantry was the fact that there were no windows – but we managed to bring in plenty of brightness with strategic lighting.

MORE EXCITING PRODUCTS

This time around, we’re thrilled to say that we’re working with even more incredible sponsors for House 02. With more brands on board, we’re able to choose from an even wider range of products to make our vision come to life for the home.

These wonderful sponsors are handpicked by us. We only choose to work with brands that we genuinely love and trust in their products, and we couldn’t be more eager to share their fabulous products with all the viewers. So, you can expect to see even more gorgeous pieces that you can get for your own home to bring your design dreams to life.

Think: Coastal, Hamptons, A-frames, family home, texture, layers…

This was the vision for the lounge and dining area, and we brought it to life with a completely new roofline, gorgeous bright-white tones, and complementary furniture, art, and décor.

To match the vibes of this open and free-flowing space, we replaced a brick load-bearing wall with pillars for a feature wall with arches.

These curved shapes brought a beautiful flow to the entire area, with shelving to add an element of practicality. Click here to shop all our selections for Episode 2

MORE ROOMS, MORE DESIGNS (WHICH MEANS MORE INSPO FOR YOU)

A bigger home means that we have even more rooms to transform than last time. You’ll see as we transform all new spaces, including a mezzanine area, powder room and ensuite, sitting room, and the upstairs entry.
As always, you’ll also see us renovate the regular spaces such as the bedrooms, kitchen, living room, outdoor area, and pool. But of course, things are completely different this time. House 01 was inspired by the Hamptons, luxury coastal living, and Mediterranean vibes. House 02 is inspired by the wabi-sabi design philosophy, giving you a fresh look at this wildly popular interior style.

You’ll discover how to incorporate this style into your own home, even if it’s with a few pieces. Expect to see us embrace imperfections, use natural and organic materials, and focus on authenticity and simplicity – elements that bring some much-needed warmth and comfort to any space.

With a brand-new design style on the show and more rooms featured each episode, you’ll get even more inspiration for your own design choices and upcoming renovations.

MORE OF DEB & ANDY
(OR IS IT ANDY & DEB?)

We are so grateful to be popping up on your screens once more! If you haven’t heard from us since our days on The Block, or you don’t know anything about us, here’s a quick summary so you can get to know us better.
DEB
During The Block, my trademark coastal styling evoked emotion, and on one occasion, reduced judge Shaynna Blaze to tears of joy! She loved my eye for design so much, that she encouraged me to pursue a path in professional interior design – and I did just that. I’m proud to say that I’ve completed my studies as of 2022, making me a professional Interior Decorator/Stylist.
ANDY
Before The Block, you might have seen this face popping up around the Melbourne comedy circuit. I’ve performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as a few other comedy tours around the world. I’m proud of my heritage as an Australian Aboriginal from Biripi country, which is beautiful Taree.
It’s safe to say I’m a bit of a whizz with numbers, and I’ll always find a way to improve a floor plan or two –along with supplying the laughs. Everyone needs a little pick-me-up, right?

We made space for two rumpus rooms, giving the family one TV room/media room, and one space dedicated to the kids.

To make the rumpus room more spacious, we removed an entire wall and added transparent panelling to the doors.

The media room was small, but we made sure it didn’t feel crowded by using white and neutral tones, with simple cabinetry and a single sofa.

The study became a space for Suzie’s husband Greg to hangout with his ten guitars, which we found space to store on the wall – pretty much any music-lover’s dream man cave. Click here to shop all our selections for Episode 4 and get inspiration for your own space.

With the newly opened-up lounge and dining space, we were able to achieve the classic indoor-outdoor living that perfectly matches the sunny Gold Coast lifestyle.

The 16-metre swimming pool already brought an indulgent feel, but we resurfaced it to make the area feel even more like a luxury resort – Hamptons style. Click here to shop all our selections for Episode 5 and get inspiration for your own space.
